Can I carry alcohol on a plane that lands in the US?

August 13th, 2008

I am flying from Canada to Germany via Philadelphia. I would like to buy a bottle of ice cider and a bottle of ice wine for my friends. Is that legal? Can I put them in my suitcase if it's not a carry-on?
I called Air Canada but they are overloaded with calls because of weather [...]

Riesling Ice wines, opinions please?

August 13th, 2008

Riesling Icewines are probably tied for my favourite white Icewine (with the ephemeral goodness of Gewurztraminer). At their best (notably 'Royal de Maria' and 'Stratus') they are luscious, balanced, and have gorgeous lime and petrol notes.
The really beautiful thing about Riesling Icewines though, isn't in comparing them to other Icewines that you might drink [...]

How long can a bottle of "Ice wine" keep in refrigerator? Is a bottle of year 1999 ice wine still good?

August 13th, 2008

Ice wine is named so because the grapes aren't picked until after the first frost. Therefore the wine will keep as long as any other wine.

Ice wine…does anyone know where I can buy it?

August 13th, 2008

I tasted ice wine, which is a chilled, fruity, white wine, at a wine bar in NYC 2 months ago. I really liked it, but did not buy it then because I didn't want to carry it around all day, and then on the plane.
Where can I get that?
Inniskillen is the most popular and [...]

What do you think of these places in Canada…?

August 13th, 2008

I'll be leaving to Canada tomorrow, and I was just wondering what do you think about all these places? I've never been to Canada before, and this will be my first time, and these will be some of the places I'll be going to while I'm there, so I was wondering how they are [...]

Is the proper term for a desert wine called "ice wine"?

August 13th, 2008

I heard once that "ice wine" is what you call a desert wine because you serve it chilled. Its very sweet flavorful wine and I love it. I just cant FIND IT. I tried it at the Epcot food and wine festival at Disney World. Every year I buy a bottle, then its gone and [...]

how to store an ice wine after opening?

August 13th, 2008

how to serve ice wine?
Just re-cork it and refrigerate it. We generally have a dessert wine in the fridge, Ice wine or Noble wine or Muscat. Unlike other answerers responded wine with high residual sugars last quite well for many days even weeks after opening.
Ice wine is served in 2 ounce portions in [...]

Does Sauternes have to be botrytised?

August 12th, 2008

In Canada, they can't call it ice wine unless strict temperature criteria are met throughout harvest and pressing. In a particularly bad vintage in Sauternes, if botryitis fails to occur, can the chateaux still sell their wines as AOC Sauternes?
Sauternes AC wines need to contain botrysised grapes. The extent of the botrytis and [...]
