Inniskillin Ice Wine (White)?

August 16th, 2008

I want to buy Inniskillin Ice Wine (White) as a gift to my friend in a gift box. We will be having dinner and how can I keep the wine in excellent condition while travelling (carrying around)? Does the temperature as well as the movement/vibrations affect the wine? My country is 25 to 30 degree celsius all year round.

Having had a great deal of experience with Canadian Icewines (I represent them in the US) I would recommend NOT chilling the Inniskillin Icewine prior to traveling to your destination (whether it is five minutes or five hours) as the humidity / dampness from the refrigerator or ice pack can damage the gift box that seems important to you. Rather, have the recipient chill the wine after arrival.

As previously stated, routine transit of the wine will not harm it — only excessive heat, sunlight and violent shaking or vibrations.

Cheers!

good taste! It is one of the nicer dessert wines around. I would suggest chilling it first and then bagging it with ice pack and in a cooler so that it can be nice and chilled when you arrive for dinner for all to enjoy.

movement is fine and does not affect the wine as long as it is not deliberately shaken with force for a long period of time

I once brought ice wine back to the States from Bavaria in my check-in luggage. It was fine when I opened it. As for a particular brand, your liquor store may be able to order it for you. The merchants that I'm familiar with keep catalogues of products available from their different vendors.

Traveling is not really recommended, but you can do it as long as you rest the bottle for 1 month or so.
the only inconvenient for the temperature is that the wine will age quicker, but if you want to drink it fairly soon, it doesn't matter.
just remember to serve it around 5-6 Degrees C.

keep it in a cool place (if you are moving around then get a portable icebox). movement/vibration affect on wine is negligible. however, warm temp and direct sunlight will kill your wine.
