Can you recommend a nice ice wine?

August 27th, 2008

And preferably good value?

I had some late harvest reisling a few weeks ago that blew my mind. It was super delicious, I don't know where you're from but here in Washington you can get this stuff in the store if you are in a bigger city. Here's a link to buy online.

Dumb name but SO good.

In the past, all proper icewines were from Germany, and always in half bottles and expensive. When I worked in Germany, I took an interest, as this particular wine was extremely palatable. I visited Kelleries where it was made, and they all told me that they could not make enough of it to supply markets outside of Germany. I have recently seen and tried icewines from New Zealand and Canada. Different, but still very good. There is a nice one in half bottles available in my local Marks and Spencer, £14 for a half bottle.

Ohio has a lot of wineries that make excellent ice wines. The problem is most of them do not ship out of the state. Old Firehouse winery will ship to anywhere is the US-a 350ml bottle costs $31.07 for Vidal Ice, $28.03 for a bottle of Delaware Ice.

Would you like a traditional white icewine - either Vidal or Riesling - or would you like to be a little adventurous? I'll give you a link here of the LARGEST ESTATE ICEWINE PRODUCER IN THE WORLD. Just choose from their wide selection of products - all of them are extremely delicious.
